Impressions of VizBi 2014 : interactive boards, lightning talks & dancer's hip

The conference for Visualisation of Biology, VizBi edition 2014, just finished last friday at EMBO (Heidelberg, Germany) and left me very enthusiastic, just like after the 2012 edition.
The format has not changed much and the organisers kept all the elements I really enjoyed 2 years ago: 3 keynote talks by impressive scientists that are leaders in visualisation processes, lightning talks for posters (I'll come back to that below) and a large diversity of topics. Furthermore, this year, they added more informal sessions designed to discuss topics proposed by the participants.

at VizBi 2014

One of the great aspect of working at EMBO now is to be able to attend the VizBi conference in the DNA building next door.

So far, I am already happy to have seen the talk by Jeff Heer - the founder of D3.js  and to have met Drew Berry, a wonderful 3D animator, who among many great projects did this Bjork video clip

Also good to see that the organisers manage to keep this relax and friendly atmosphere that I enjoyed 2 years ago.
